Hello, I'm Sharon
I have had a dynamic career spanning clinical practice, healthcare leadership, academic teaching and research. I began working as an occupational therapist and progressed into middle and senior management roles in healthcare organisations across Australia and England. Mid-career, I shifted focus to complete a PhD on effective teamwork in healthcare, which led to a complementary academic path. Since then, I have led postgraduate programs across four universities, including the University of Oxford.
Now, working independently as a consultant, I support health professionals to navigate complexity, plan implementation, and lead innovation across different healthcare settings.
I wrote this book to bring together the research insights, educational strategies, and practical experiences I’ve accumulated across these different roles. Too often, I have observed clinicians and those who support them face a frustrating mix of trial-and-error change efforts while trying to make sense of overwhelming evidence. I’ve seen time and energy wasted from a lack of knowledge, structure and support. This book offers a systematic, evidence-informed sequence of strategies designed to help busy clinicians, and the researchers and innovators who work with them, to plan and implement change more effectively.
Healthcare continues to evolve — but evidence only makes a difference when it’s implemented effectively.
Amid increasing demand, limited resources, and growing complexity, implementation science has never been more essential.
From Research to Reality provides a proven approach for applying evidence to practice and helping professionals lead change with confidence and clarity.
